NUSS AGM: Vote and Defend Badminton (by Kok Yew)

NUSS AGM
Wed, 29 April, 2009
NUSS KRGH
6..30 pm for a sumptuous buffet first and vote for the re-election to the MC

1. TOH YONG SOON (who is responsible for the MPH)
2. Dr FONG POH HIM (our long lost badminton member)

REASON:

An update on the Club's developments will most likely be discussed.
If questions were raised on the MPH and suggestions on having many other indoor sports included in the MPH, then it is up to our Badminton Section members to stand up and defend our case. I cannot defend alone, you guys have to support me.

Lines for Basketball will likely to be included, since this was mentioned in my meeting with the professionals. But I requested that they defer the drawing of the lines first until such time that they are sure there will be sustained interest as with our Badminton Section. If ever Basketball is included, I have suggested that the net and board be constructed on both ends of the hall, like in Innova, and not on rollers which can damage our lovely flooring.

1. It was the Badminton Section which fought hard for the MPH in previous AGMs and dialogue sessions, not other sports like basketball.

2. Experience has shown that Badminton is very popular in Singapore and is one of the few selected core games well supported by the Singapore Sports Council and our four badminton courts will be heavily utilised given sufficient time from opening as other clubs and public courts have experienced.

3. As such revenue from badminton will be very good, far surpassing those for tennis, squash and table-tennis. Income from court rentals will likely be able to offset the maintenance cost.

4. Coaching will be another source of income. Parents will be interested in sending their children for weekend coaching especially, so that they could visit the club and use its facilities at the same time, like the gym, swimming pool, karaoke, bar, our "casino", etc. We will also be able to help produce future star players for our Club and maybe Singapore. More revenue for the Club will come from these spin-offs.

5. If we can concentrate on badminton, our Section will continue to win friends and honours for NUSS and our name will travel far and wide, hopefully.

6. The inclusion of other sports not only will distort the lines but may also damage the floor and cause the Club to pay more for maintenance and repairs.

7. Please think of other reasons to defend out badminton cause if necessary.

SO PLEASE COME THIS WEDNESDAY TO VOTE OUR CANDIDATES AND TO DEFEND BADMINTON AT NUSS.

Happy Badminton!
Kok Yew
